I hope everyone enjoyed their Spring Break! Right before break, 4th grade finished their Historical Fiction Unit in reading. We just finished our projects wrapping up the unit. The students created journals putting themselves in the perspective of a main character in their books. When we come back from Easter Break in a couple of weeks we will begin book clubs. Students are being placed into book club groups based on the books they're interested in.
We are getting a new Einstein Kit in the middle of April! This is my favorite Einstein Kit that I look forward to every year. We will be focusing on Animal Studies. The kit provides three different animals that as a class we will be caring for and learning about. We will also be doing a smaller unit an addition to the Einstein Kit about chickens and we will hopefully even incubate and hatch baby chicks by the end of the school year!
In social studies, we continue to learn about the different regions in our country. Please encourage you child to study the states in the U.S. The students will have a test in May on the location of the states. They will also be graded on spelling. Throughout April I will be sending home games with students to help practice the states. Please play the games sent home with your child to help them prepare for the test. Also, here's a couple websites as resources for at home to study:

Our Unit 7 in math is coming to an end. We will be taking our Unit 7 math test on Wednesday, April 12th. Unit 7 focused on fractions, decimals, and relating them to each other. We will start our last unit, Unit 8, when we come back from Easter Break. Unit 8 will be focusing on geometry.
On Thursday, April 13th we will be taking a field trip to Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve. The program we are doing is outside. Please have your child wear weather permitting clothes. I also recommend wearing rain boots or old tennis shoes as we will be working by water and it may be damp. Please make sure your child brings a bag lunch.
Important dates in April:
-Wednesday, April 12th: Unit 7 Math Test
-Thursday, April 13th: Field Trip to Barkhausen Waterfowl Preserve
-April 14th-17th: No School- Happy Easter!
