I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween! It was nice seeing everyone's fun, creative costumes last Friday.
In math, we are in the middle of Unit 3 where we're focusing on division. Considering how challenging this unit is, the students are doing very well. The key to division is knowing math facts fluently. Please encourage your child to practice their math facts on a regular basis. I will give a few suggestions on fun ways to practice math facts during conferences.
In writing, we are in the middle of the writing process for our personal narratives. Our personal narratives are on the topic of our favorite Christmas memory. We will be publishing all of our narratives into one book. The books will be made by a professional publishing company. Parents will have the option to purchase these books if they wish to.
In social studies, we've been focusing on government and the election process. We're currently in the middle of our own class election. We have our two political parties: the chickens and the turkeys. The chicken's class president nominee is Cati. The turkey's class president nominee is Cade. We will be having our class elections next Tuesday.
In reading, we are in the middle of our mystery novels. We just finished focusing on making connections when we're reading. Next week we will be focusing on how we can ask "thick" and "thin" questions while we're reading.
I look forward to seeing all of you at conferences!
